National professional basketball tourney begins next month

HCM CITY –  This year’s professional national basketball tournament, sponsored by Jetstar, will be held from September 0 五 to December 0 三.

The Việt Nam Basketball Federation (VBF) and Việt Nam Basketball Association (VBA) held a launching ceremony for the tournament last week.

It will feature six teams: Saigon Heat, Thang Long Warriors, HoChiMinh City Wings, HaNoi Buffaloes, CanTho Catfish and DangNang Dragons.

Each team will be able to field one foreign player and two overseas Vietnamese players. The rest of the team will have to comprise local players.

At the launching ceremony of VBA  二0 一 七, the sponsor announced that it will give both male and female basketball teams VNĐ 一0 million (US$ 四 五0) for each point by which they beat their competitors at the SEA Games  二 九 in Malaysia. A victory margin of  一0 points, therefore, would fetch the team VNĐ 一00 million.
